What Should I Wear for a Portrait Session?

The clothes you choose should disappear a little. When an outfit is comfortable and familiar, you stop thinking about it — and that is exactly when the good frames happen.
Start with texture instead of pattern. Linen, knitwear, denim and soft cotton all catch natural light beautifully and add depth without pulling attention away from your face.
Choose a palette rather than matching outfits. Two or three warm, natural tones across a group — cream, sand, olive, soft rust — keeps everyone connected without looking uniform.
Bring one extra layer. A jacket, a scarf or a second shirt gives me a second look mid-session without needing anywhere to change.
And finally: wear something you would happily be photographed in on an ordinary afternoon. If you feel like yourself, the portraits will look like you.
